The Queen announced a scheme to help people build or commission their own home in the State Opening of Parliament on 27 May 2015.
The ‘Right to Build’ supports aspiring self and custom builders by requiring councils to release shovel-ready plots. This aims to increase housing supply and diversity in the housing sector by giving people the right to be allocated land with planning permission to self build or to commission a local builder. With a ready-supply of plots allocated by council, people won’t have to wait years to start building.
